Big week in Melbourne
The recent General Certificate of Distilling course, run in partnership between The Whisky Academy and the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, was held in Melbourne at the Starward Distillery and The Craft and Co in early September 2017, and gave attending students a full overview of the technical aspects of distilling from raw ingredients, through machinery and set up, cleaning and waste management and everything in between.
Held over five days and delivered by IBD legend Alan Barclay from Scotland, the course gave us an insight into distilling practice but also the partner businesses who helped us during the week.
If you thought that spending five days fully immersed in distilling world, learning about all that is whisky, getting to test your skills and knowledge with 25 similarly inspired whisky mates sounds like awesome fun – then you’re right.
The thing we enjoy most from these events is both the camaraderie that develops, but also the networking, social events and catching up with industry mates – including our friend from Four Pillars Stu Gregor who was our guest speaker at our Distillers Dinner on the Thursday evening.
