Tasmania’s Whisky Week provided a great chance for nine of our best whisky mates to join us for a behind the scenes look at Hangar 17 – the Launceston Distillery near Evandale.
The crew arrived to a fresh August morning, welcomed by Distiller Chris Condon, whisky business partner Chris Byrne, our Director Anne Gigney and of course Angus the Distillery Dog for a day’s look at what happens in the distillery, and what is the science behind making a great whisky. We also took in the story and the business behind the creation of Hangar 17 with business guy Chris generously sharing his knowledge.
We were joined by people from all walks including some aspiring distillery owners, whisky passionistas, enthusiasts and one fellow who’s wife dropped him at the door and said “Go enjoy yourself.” And what an awesome crew they were.
We go them to work mashing in, smelling and tasting the malt, the wort and finally when the day was done sampling what will become Launceston Distillery’s port and sherry casks whiskies in 2018. We filled our special whisky week barrel before a pic, a gift and a cheer for a great day out.
Roll on 2018. Congrats to the Tasmanian producers for a tremendous statewide, week-long event.
